STANNIES TRADE TRAINING CENTRE OPENING

September 12, 2011

BATHURST NSW: On Friday September 9, at St Stanislaus' College, Bathurst NSW, Senator Matt Thistlethwaite opened the College’s new Trade Training Centre. It was then blessed by the Provincial of the Australian Province of the Vincentians, Fr Greg Cooney CM. Stannies was one of the first independent schools to be successful in receiving a Trade Training Centre grant and the $1,670,677 incl GST (Goods and Services Tax) from the Commonwealth Government has been utilised to build and equip a first class trades training centre with specialist workshops for construction, automotive and metals, and engineering. While the media continues to decry the Commonwealth Government’s expenditure on schools and to depict it as a massive waste of the nation’s resources, the argument that the $1.6 million spent at Stannies has been efficiently used to dramatically improve the quality of the delivery of a number of Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses is overwhelming. More details are availale in the Stannies Newsletter of September 13, 2011. (Scroll down to "Opening of our Trade Training Centre")
