Having been charged with the care of the people on the estates of the de Gondi Family, Vincent de Paul often visited their tenants in the north of France, in the region of Folleville.   It was at Folleville,  on Sunday January 25, 1617,  that Vincent preached his famous sermon on General Confession, after a particular experience with a dying man at Gannes, a village nearby.  This date, the feast of the Conversion of St Paul, was regarded by Vincent as the beginning of the Congregation of the Mission.  Although the Congregation of the Mission was not formally set up until 1625,  January 25, 1617 is still celebrated  by Vincentians as the Foundation Day of the Congregation.
